GEN-X a Hit at ISSA 2009 in Chicago!
The all-new GEN-X is on display and giving live demonstrations at ISSA Interclean 2009 in Chicago, and the reaction has been wonderful! Even after over almost 20 years on the market, robotic floor scrubbers are still news to many people, and seeing a floor scrubber clean without the need to tie up an operator made a huge impression on everyone. The cost savings, productivity and improvement and cleaning make the GEN-X the future of floor care.

GEN-X Scrubber Debuts at ISSA 2009

At ISSA 2009, Intellibot Robotics will release
the next generation of
intelligent floor care robots: the GEN-X. A completely clean-sheet design,
the GEN-X incorporates the latest technological
developments from the worlds of computers, automobiles and robotics.
The result brings together what facility managers and building owners
look for the most; lower floor care costs, ease of use, improved
cleaning performance and total accountability.
Intellibot's design challenge was to improve upon the already outstanding performance, safety and reliability of its previous generations. Intellibot began by doing extensive research into the needs of today's environmental service professionals including facility managers and cleaning contractors. Data from current and previous robot owners was included, combined with information gathered from Intellibot's own service department. Benchmarks for cleaning performance, routine maintenance, and ease of operation were established, along with a "wish list" of features that floor care equipment should provide.
Intellibot began the design process with a clean sheet of paper, allowing them to consider every aspect of the robot and make updates to any system necessary. To meet the performance benchmarks of the new robot, Intellibot conducted extensive research to locate components that would meet their strict design criteria. One example is the all-weather sonar sensors sourced from the automotive industry. Used in parking-assist systems by many major automobile manufacturers, these sensors are designed to withstand vibration, temperature extremes, and all types of weather. Other advancements in computer processing power, miniaturization, wireless technology, touch screen interfaces, and electric motors were also incorporated into the design. In the same way that these technologies have brought improvements to mobile computing, music players and cell phones, they have brought a new level of capability and reliability to the GEN-X.
In speaking with potential customers, Intellibot determined that accountability was one of the top requests by building owners, contractors and facility maintenance leaders. Equipment owners were looking for a complete floor care solution, including a way to monitor what areas have been cleaned, how often, and by whom. Even the best cleaning machine in the world won't do any good if it never leaves the janitor's closet. The GEN-X keeps a complete record of operator log ins and areas cleaned, and wirelessly transmits the data to the owner's account. This allows contractors to provide more accurate billing, facility managers to track staff, and building owners to confirm compliance with their cleaning schedules. The wireless technology of the GEN-X also allows for other useful functions such as remote diagnostics and service notifications.
As products like the iPod and iPhone have clearly demonstrated, advanced
technology is only part of a successful equation. Ease of
operation and an intuitive user interface are equally important in
making this technology accessible to the user. A sleek, modern
design that offers functionality and simplicity in one package also goes
a long way towards product acceptance and implementation.
Intellibot took these lessons to heart with the design of the GEN-X. The
exterior of the robot is almost entirely made from roto-molded plastic,
a tough material that is impact-resistant and easy to clean.
Throughout the robot, the user will notice other design touches aimed at
making every day operation easier; a single solution tank that is easy
to access, drain and clean, an integral drain hose, and an ergonomic
handle with a touch-sensitive strip to activate the drive motors during
manual operation. All of these intelligent designs are wrapped in
a modern, attractive shape that clearly elevates the GEN-X robot above
any other manual or ride-on floor cleaner on the market today.
