Intellibot Robots have always enjoyed a spotless safety record, and the GEN-X is designed to maintain that level of confidence. Safety begins with integrated sensor systems that give the robot a clear picture of it's environment. Sonar sensors located on all sides of the GEN-X provide a panoramic, 360-degree view. This complete picture allows the robot to avoid both floor-level obstructions such as furniture and wall-mounted obstacles such as water fountains. Additional infrared sensors under the robot detect gaps in the floor to prevent falls down stairs or off curbs. A second set mounted low on the sides detect the kick panel beneath shelving for safe operation in retail environments. This complete package of sensors is tied to the navigation system which updates the path of the robot in real time. Because it is not blindly following a pre-determined route, the GEN-X can accommodate for changes in the physical environment where it is cleaning to ensure that it will never cause property damage even if furniture is moved or cubicles rearranged.
The sensor array of the GEN-X also allows it to safely operate in close proximity to pedestrian traffic. Since the robot monitors it's environment in real time, it will immediately detect if a person steps into it's path of travel. The safety system will immediately activate powerful mechanical brakes that quickly stop the robot to avoid a collision. The 360-degree view of the GEN-X will detect people ahead, behind or beside the robot, keeping them safe no matter what direction the robot is heading. If the person moves out of the robot's path, it will continue in its original direction. If not, it will safely navigate around and return to its original path.
The safety system of the GEN-X features two fail-safe methods of bringing the robot to a halt. A touch-sensitive panel extends across the entire front and rear of the robot. Should the GEN-X come into contact with something not detected by the other systems, the touch panels will immediately halt the robot. Even stepping directly in front of a moving robot will result in nothing more than a gentle tap. People in the vicinity of the robot are not always aware of its outstanding safety record, so for added peace of mind, a highly-visible Emergency Stop button is located on the control panel. Anyone can bring the GEN-X to a halt at any time simply by pressing the E-Stop.
